Do Witches Do Halloween?

What is Samhain and how is it related to Halloween for me?
You probably know witches as something that you would dress up for on Halloween but in actuality, witches are so much more than a costume. As you've learned from my past bogs, there are many witches thriving in the world today and because of that, I think that it is important that you know about Samhain.
Samhain is a holiday that begins on the evening of October 31st and wraps up on the evening of November 1st. Samhain was originally a Gaelic festival that marked the end of harvest season and the beginning of winter. The reason that it begins on one night and ends on the next is because the Celtic day began and ended at sunset.
Nowadays, it is commonly celebrated by witches while people are celebrating Halloween due to the timing and I have accepted the more "modern" form of Halloween as the actual act of celebrating with friends and family while I celebrate Samhain more on my own.
They are two different holidays of course though and as such, I celebrate them each equally and seperately.
How do I celebrate?
I love Halloween because I get to dress up with friends and partying in the classic college kid way. I also adore getting to make Halloween themed treats and drinks and the decorations for this spooky holiday are some of my favourites. Think bats, cats, rat, and more! They are all so cute and I love the spooky vibe everyone has.
After hours, when I am on my own during the holiday, I celebrate Samhain. I usually will have a private celebration of my own that involves thing such as my autumn scented candles, a mini pumpkin if I'm feeling especially festive, fallen autumn leaves that I have collected and are to my liking, and my grimoire.
It may be disappointing to some to know that no, I do not hail Satan during this festive night and I am not usually casting curses while the veil between our world and the spirit realm is at its thinnest.
Overall, I love both holidays and it's one of the times during the year that I feel at my witchiest, probably due to the spooky vibes, the crisp autumn air, and the crunch of the leaves when one is afoot.
